Design Ethos and Scope
CCD Architects are able to provide a wide range of Architectural Services, benefitting from the experience of designing in excess of 3,000 buildings over a period of more than 30 years. The value of projects has ranged from as little as £500 up to £20m, and the style and function of the finished buildings has varied widely.
The practice has designed a whole range of buildings; from museums to offices, shops to industrial buildings, hotels to medical buildings and much more. Perhaps the largest sector however is bespoke domestic projects. We are well known for our work on historic houses such as farmhouses, manoirs and townhouses. We have also created a number of significant modern houses in a traditional style, utilising high levels of traditional skills and crafts developed through our conservation work with historic buildings.
The practice has also established a reputation for ‘Fabulous Houses’, a number of which were displayed at a special exhibition of the same name held at the Royal Court in 2011 to celebrate 30 years of outstanding Architecture by CCD.
Many of the ‘Fabulous Houses’ that the practice is known for are contemporary designs, some of which have become design icons, such as the multi-award winning house ‘L’Escargot’. Each bespoke contemporary house is a unique design solution for the owners and the site. Architectural ‘fashions’ are eschewed, and the unique, often organic designs are intended to last without becoming ‘dated’. Sustainable materials, low-energy in use and schemes which are designed to be in harmony with the landscape are the hallmarks of CCD Architecture. Often Landscape Design is incorporated at the very earliest concept stages of a project, in conjunction with our associated Chartered Landscape Architect.
The practice is able to provide the full range of architectural services and is recognised as a ‘Chartered Practice’ by the Royal Institute of British Architects. Examples of services offered include:-
