A La Ronde
CCD were commissioned to design a home on a striking, sloping clifftop site, previously occupied by a studio used by the renowned artist W. J. Caparne. Planning constraints were tight due to the exposed and sensitive nature of the location, which dictated the size and form of the replacement dwelling.

The new house sits naturally on the rocky cliff edge, nestled among mature pine trees. The lower floor appears to grow from the rock itself, constructed in large, un-pointed granite blocks that integrate the building with its dramatic setting.
In contrast, the upper floor is a light, glass and timber pavilion. Sliding doors open onto a wraparound balcony, offering uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The roof, formed from lead-coated stainless steel, features a large, curved central lantern that floods the atrium with natural light, creating a striking focal point and a sense of openness throughout the home.
