La Belle Vue

This new home was conceived to replace a dilapidated dwelling and garage studio flat on a spectacular east coast site overlooking the islands. The project provided an opportunity to create a carefully detailed and characterful residence in one of Guernsey’s most distinctive architectural areas.

Located within the Village de Putron, the design draws inspiration from the area’s celebrated Arts and Crafts tradition. This style’s flexibility and focus on craftsmanship allowed the use of traditional forms and materials in a way that feels authentic to its setting.

Perched on the cliff edge, the house is composed of varied gables, turrets, and chimneys that break down its overall mass and create a dynamic silhouette. The turrets capture panoramic coastal views, while the cloister connecting the main house to the studio garage deliberately screens the sea on arrival—offering only a teasing glimpse through the arch of the pigeonnière.

Every element, from the windows and doors to the interior detailing, carries the Arts and Crafts theme throughout. The design also embraces modern performance, with high levels of insulation and an underground rainwater storage system that minimises energy use and supports sustainable living.
